Educating The Girl Child: An Ode to WendyBell

Off you go, Wendy, my beloved daughter
Into the world of thought
To be groomed with knowledge
For a future of solace
It is your "raison d'etre"

The route ahead
None knows; young or old
May be smooth or rough; the least said
But the route behind
You need not be told

I am a man of modesty
Born into thorny, pinch of poverty
Denied literacy
Live in deprivation
Howbeit a life of decency

But you, Wendy!
Be a woman of virtue
Shut the shows of fantasy
Be crowned with glorious of chastity
To enjoy a future of plenty

This, the best treasure be
That, to you, I offer today
The opportunity life did me deny
Wealth borne of knowledge
Professional competence, confidence and courage

This be the world of haves
The poor may remain without doubt
Lead the crowd out of the dark uncertain cloud
And be its voice
But never you follow the crowd

Forsake not your tenacious vision
Relent not on your life's ambition
Grasp the nettle
And sow the seed of unity and progress

Let the midnight oil burn
And through toil and zeal
The knowledge of life be learnt
This New Order be, the world of opportunities
For all with ability

Educate your people
That, out they come
From the domestic domain
Into the public domain
Lest, without, they forever remain

Wendy, my beloved daughter
Your chosen route may be longer
But will, eventually, be a life a life-comforter
'cos thanks to advocate of Women's Rights
The future is bright

And per Aggrey principle:
An educated man is an individual
But an educated woman is a multitude
